Helping brands craft compelling content.
I’m Mark Prigg — a journalist, editor and commerce strategist who’s spent a career moving between newsrooms and boardrooms, from the Daily Mail and Sunday Times to leading commerce teams at Dotdash Meredith and now Fox. I’m open to full-time editorial and commerce leadership roles, and available for freelance journalism, editing and content-strategy advisory work.
Science and technology, told well.
I’m currently leading and scaling one of Fox’s fastest-growing revenue businesses across Fox News Media and Fox Weather. I build new content-to-commerce revenue streams and monetize a massive, highly engaged daily audience — drawing on a journalism background to connect data and content in ways that drive real revenue. I hold full P&L ownership for the division, partnering with the CFO and CDO on multi-year revenue targets and marketplace expansion.
As VP of Commerce at Dotdash Meredith, I led commerce for some of the most popular and trusted food, travel and pet sites in the world — including Travel + Leisure, Food & Wine, Serious Eats, Allrecipes, EatingWell and Spruce Pets. Taking a data-driven approach with growth, product and design teams, I helped drive revenue growth of over 100% across all brands in twelve months, while keeping editorial quality high and sharpening each brand’s audience and commerce franchises.
I also brought the brands to life beyond the page — from viral Travel + Leisure TikToks to a commerce installation at the Food & Wine Classic in Aspen — and, following the Dotdash–Meredith merger, took on the legacy Dotdash commerce business too, overseeing brands including Byrdie, Brides, The Spruce, Lifewire and Tripsavvy, and working with the AI team on newsroom tools for the commerce team.
I’ve also worked as an SVP at Weber Shandwick, where I helped IBM rethink its communications strategy with a sharper focus on audience and platform — using data to identify who IBM should be talking to, and which messages and features from its vast product portfolio would resonate most. I acted as senior counsel to IBM leaders on crafting compelling product stories around Cloud, AI and Tech for Good, while also helping grow Weber Shandwick’s North America Tech practice.
Before that, I spent over 25 years as a science and technology journalist and editor. I was Editorial Director at Allconnect, a Red Ventures company, where I built an SEO-driven newsroom from the ground up. I also spent seven years as Science & Technology Editor at Dailymail.com, the world’s biggest newspaper website, leading the London and New York newsrooms, pioneering branded content there, and mentoring young journalists on the Mail’s trainee scheme. In between, I was a freelance journalist based in San Francisco, writing for WIRED, The Telegraph, Pocket-lint, T3 and Stuff — securing exclusive interviews with the likes of Apple’s Sir Jonathan Ive and Google’s then head of search, Amit Singhal — and I held staff roles as Science & Technology editor/reporter at The Sunday Times and the London Evening Standard.
Originally from Wales, I now live in upstate New York with my wife and dog. I’m available both as a freelance journalist/editor, and to advise on content strategy — helping brands work out what to publish, and why.
